What is a Spencer Wells Artery Forceps?

The Spencer Wells Artery Forceps is the classic, most widely used artery forceps in the world. If you see a picture of a hemostat, it is usually a Spencer Wells.

The difference from Crile is important:

Crile Forceps = Half Serrated (serrations only halfway)
Spencer Wells Forceps = Fully Serrated (serrations along the full length of the jaw)

This full serration gives the Spencer Wells a much stronger and more secure grip on blood vessels and tissues. It is the preferred choice when a surgeon needs a forceps that will absolutely NOT slip.
